Country Cottage, Gloucestershire

A charming 18th-century cottage in the Cotswolds, situated on a hill with beautiful views of the Woodchester valley. The cottage has a modern extension that includes a kitchen and dining room, designed to make the most of natural light and create a spacious feel. The original part of the cottage has smaller rooms with deep-set windows in the stone walls. It features traditional elements like oak beams, open fires, and a spiral stone staircase. The owners, who are from South Africa, wanted to incorporate their vibrant heritage into the cottage's design, adding bold patterns and statement pieces. With two children, practicality, comfort, and ample storage were important considerations. The design focused on a contemporary country style, using the cottage's traditional features as a backdrop for bright and colorful patterns that echo the landscape. A local furniture maker created a custom oak dining table to fit the extension perfectly.
