Country House, Cotswolds

1950’s Arts and Crafts style country house near Cirencester, built in traditional Cotswold stone. Local architects had already been commissioned to design a large family room extension to the original building. Recently returned from living in Asia, the clients wanted a classic and refined interior that wasn’t too traditionally ‘country’ in look and feel. They also wanted to be able to showcase their much-loved collection of Chinese ceramics and paintings, but at the same time retain a practical space for their large family and guests to enjoy. A flowing scheme that takes full advantage of the home’s strikingly beautiful views across the valley. We wanted to complement the views rather than compete with them so designed a calm palette that blends tonally from room to room, harmonising with stone and wooden floors. Accents were created with carefully chosen furniture pieces – antique to reflect older sections of the house and more modern pieces to highlight the new extension to the property. Overall the home has a lovely serenity whilst at the same time remaining visually interesting throughout.
